Nature Unraveled
Student Choice Award 1st Place / Edward C. Earl Prize 2nd Place / NAAB Accreditation Selection
The concept is to integrate the architectural intervention with the slope of the hill to create a unique landscape opportunity within the Kickapoo State Park. The building uses a series of framing both externally and internally to enhance users’ sensory experience within the surrounding nature. The theatre is composed with two massings and a monumental stairway. The orientation of the massings creates an opening towards the Emerald Pond and encourages users to explore the site. Instead of completely enclosing the theatre with no daylight, the project introduces a facade pattern that reveals the greenery as a theatre backdrop.
